What Enables a Gynecologic Surgeon to Perform Robotically Assisted Surgeries?

    Last updated 9 days ago

Invasive, open, and somewhat dangerous gynecological procedures are a thing of the past. Advances in the field of medicine have led to new procedures using laparoscopic or robotically assisted surgical techniques. Atlanta Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Center proudly offers patients the many benefits of these new surgeries at our state-of-the-art facilities.

    Laparoscopic and Robotically Assisted Surgeries

Laparoscopic surgery, also called minimally invasive surgery, uses a small device called a laparoscope to perform a procedure. The device is inserted through a tiny incision in the skin; the gynecologist then uses images sent to a screen to guide the device and perform the surgery. Robotically assisted surgery is a similar procedure in which the surgeon externally directs a robotic device that has been inserted into the body instead of manually controlling the instruments.

    Advances in Medicine and Technology

Recent advances in technology and medicinal knowledge have allowed surgeons to perfect laparoscopic and robotically assisted procedures. Doctors at Atlanta Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Center take pride in learning the newest and most effective procedures. Our surgeons use the state-of-the-art da Vinci Surgical System, which provides 3D surgery visualization, unprecedented control, and advanced ergonomics that give the surgeon greater precision . This system offers many advantages over surgical techniques of the past.

Benefits of Laparoscopic and Robotically Assisted Surgeries

The benefits of these new surgical procedures cannot be overstated. They present much lower risks than open surgeries and offer more successful results. Laparoscopic and robotically assisted surgeries are much less invasive than open surgery, allowing for a much faster and easier recovery for patients. Once-serious hysterectomy, myomectomy, and other procedures are now much simpler, so you can feel less anxious about potential complications of surgery.

If you’re facing gynecologic surgery, you will be relieved to know that laparoscopic and robotically assisted surgery offer you new and better options. Call (678) 999-6689 today to learn more about the advanced practices of Atlanta Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Center.

When Would a Laparoscopic Myomectomy Be Necessary?

    Last updated 16 days ago

Some women have benign tumors, also called fibroids or leiomyomata, which occur in the uterus. These fibroids aren’t harmful, and in many cases, women don’t even know they are there. Sometimes fibroids can cause problems that require treatment from a gynecologist. Atlanta Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Center offers the latest treatment options for patients who are experiencing problems related to uterine fibroids, including laparoscopic myomectomy.

    When Symptoms Become Severe

Most fibroids cause little or no problems, and many women live normal lives without ever treating these benign tumors. Postmenopausal women are rarely affected by fibroids because the growths usually shrink after menopause. For some women, though, fibroids can cause moderate to severe symptoms such as heavy, irregular, or painful periods and pelvic and bladder pressure from an enlarged uterus. Fibroids may also affect a woman’s ability to become pregnant.

    When Other Treatments Are Ineffective

Hormone therapy, iron supplements, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and embolization are all options for the treatment of uterine fibroids, but many of these treatments only address the symptoms. A myomectomy is a surgical procedure that removes the fibroids from the uterus. If the procedure is done laparoscopically or robotically, the surgeon will make a small incision and skillfully guide the surgical tools to remove the tumors. This procedure leaves the uterus intact. Laparoscopic or robotic myomectomies are minimally invasive, allowing for easier and faster recovery than open surgery.

When the Patient Wishes to Conceive

Uterine fibroid embolization stops blood flow to fibroids in order to shrink them, but pregnancy is not common after treatment. Also, most hormone treatments mimic menopause and are not suitable for young women. According to the Society of Reproductive Surgeons, myomectomy is the only fibroid treatment that may improve the patient’s chances of conception. If symptoms are severe and can’t be treated with other care, your gynecologist will recommend removing the fibroids with a myomectomy using the state-of-the-art da Vinci Surgical System for minimally invasive surgery.

If you’re worried that uterine fibroids are causing gynecological pain or problems, make an appointment to learn more about your options. Atlanta Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Center offers the newest and latest technology for myomectomy procedures in Atlanta. Call (678) 999-6689 to schedule an appointment.
